Prayer & Fasting 2023
Welcome to Fasting and Prayer January 2023!
Becoming the believer you long to be takes time. David wrote in his most rich and famous, the holy Psalm 119, about the hard work in becoming and behaving and believing and finally blooming the fruits of a holy life. If you are hungry, take a few minutes each day and drink in the refreshing waters of that Psalm. I have given thoughts specifically what David wrote about the power of meditation in Psalm 119. Read, think, meditation and then pray for the words to deepen your soul.
Day 1
Psalm 119:15 I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. Start with meditation, or thinking, as fixing our eyes on Jesus, or set your mind on things above. The precepts are the mandatory items to think on, the divine law or 10 commandments, or the person of Christ, or the expressed will of God. Phil 4:8 says “think on these things”. The mind is a slow worker and forces us to slow down. Then we are not breezing over the tremendous wealth we have in Christ. Riches are accumulated over time. Holiness is urgent but never hurriedly gathered. We must be holy, but such a precept is time consuming. But if we will pay the price in using our time wisely then we will present back to YHWH a heart of wisdom (see Psa 90:12). Once said we then regard the precepts with slow and careful pondering as we regard how we will practice His ways, as we travel on the highway of holiness. It is a pathway, a journey, a traveler’s or explorer’s way of life. No one accidentally lives every day to please YHWH. It is a choice!
Christ is who we meditate on, as we do His way of life. We study Him in order to achieve Christlikeness. More than once do we devote our mind and its work to the vast and awesome subject being followers of Christ.
v.23 Even though rulers sit and speak against me,
Your servant meditates on Your statutes. Also an additive in counsel, Where does disgrace and criticism come from towards those who walk in grace? From Satan the accuser and Satan led leaders and rulers in and of this world. Here David felt the sting of criticism from Saul. This can eat up every thought in your clear mind. Second guessing, trying to please the critic, defensive protection, bitterness, and revenge, etc all can occupy the saint’s mind. But David acted wisely, he speaks of being YHWH’s servant, ebed doulos, and meditates hoq ponder and study using my mind to deepen the meaning being YHWH’s servant, develop strategies, think reason and perceive God’s mind in His statutes as prescriptions of tasks, how to handle anger, bitterness, hope, etc. learn the many paths we must walk in the highway to holiness. Boundaries guides prescribes my action when under temptation or duress. Let His prescription be what we learn in times of leadership crisis.
Christ was greatly resisted by the leaders of his day. Yet he always asked the Father not pleasing the leaders for his prescriptions for the day. Let us walk in His supreme wisdom. 1 Pet 2:21-25
