We are down to 8 days and then we vote! In this election we have a choice between leaders who choose their teams of national workers based on their skills and character, or those who would choose based on their color of skin. Let’s pray that the leaders chosen will be those who would agree with Martin Luther King in his famous speech of August 23, 1963 when he shouted; “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.”
We must pray together, and unitedly, to be alert to those who would return our nation to the past. They would take us into a time when men and women will be identified by their appearance rather than their qualifications and abilities. We would be headed for a dark return to segregation and the judgments that pit one nationality against another. When Martin Luther looked to the future, he stated it bravely; “It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” We must never go backwards to inequality, but must forever move forward into a just and fair evaluation of what we can all accomplish when hearts are full of love and are united in hope! “Lord, break down the walls of hatred and division. Please let love and the brotherhood of man increase!
