Nothing is more encouraging than Jesus’ promise in Rev 7:17 “AND He will shepherd them, and guide them to living springs of waters.” We will enjoy this Shepherding for all eternity, and we will also enjoy His shepherding now! Psalm 23 teaches and points the direction and the way I should go. This beautiful Psalm comforts me with the promise that He will guide me away from danger to the peaceful waters and plenty of green grass. I will be so secure and relaxed in my heart that I literally “lay down”, as sheep do when feeling safe, when led to these provisions. His leadership guides me, not forces me, but inspires and motivates me to follow closely as He leads to the next place to be fed or to drink from the refreshing waters. This water is pure and unspoiled by disease or poisons. Its taste is sweet and invigorating! He also promises, “AND this God will wipe away every tear from their eyes!” this Shepherd, is God, Who will do something unexpected… He will wipe away tears of pain and frustration, tears of bitter betrayal, tears of losses, and tears of discouragement and depression. This Shepherd leads our lives, while here on earth, through the valley of death. He leads us past the enemies who try to dampen our sense of security with their threats! As I follow Him, I soon find myself feasting at the banquet that He has so lovingly provided. Yes, the tears are there, but only temporarily. Seeing His excellent leadership stirs my cup to overflow with goodness and mercy all the days of my life. What then happens, once I have ended my journey of following Him on this earth? I go to Heaven and there, the tears never return, never! He wipes them from our faces and they never return! Heaven is just a breath away! Our earthly Shepherd is guiding us to His eternal home where we will never experience another bad day! This world is exhausting at times, but soon and very soon, we are going to see the King! Soon and very soon we are going to see the king! Amen and Hallelujah! Hallelujah, we are going to see the King! Amen.
