Today we will pray the second prayer of the beatitudes, “Blessed are those who mourn…” Mourn over your sin and the sins of others. God will change your attitude from enjoying your sin, to grieving your sin. We will change our definition of that sin, the thing we used to love, is now to us a poison that will kill us and destroy our friendship with Christ. We need to apply James 4:8-10 “Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Draw near God and He will draw near you.” Cleanse your hands (what we do), purify your hearts (what you think, feel, and choose, your motives), be afflicted and mourn and weep, let your laughter (delight in your sins) be turned to heaviness and your laughter (delighting is sins) turn to mourning and a sense of doom. Humble yourself, and God will exalt you!” He will comfort you! Today as we fast, let’s pray that God will bring us into this mourning over sin.
James 4:8-10 “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”
