Discovering your SHAPE

Filed under: Tool Kit — Pastor David Mar 23, 2012 @ 11:06 pm

We have been discovering the truth about who we are. My desire is that each and every person at Faith Community Church will go from being unconscious about their SHAPE to being fully conscious of their unique calling in life. God has created us for a purpose and has actually already used our lives in lieu of that purpose. You may not even be aware of this, but He has probably already used you to help someone or be a solution to a problem.

Randy spoke to our church Sunday night at Communion,  (click here to listen) and shared with us two models of self-discovery. Rick Warren’s model is called SHAPE. To explore and discover your SHAPE,  click here. Wayne Cordeiro’s model is called DESIGN. Click here to discover your spiritual gift from his website.

Our desire is to help you discover your shape and then to develop it for His kingdom’s use right here through Faith Community Church. You may be minutes away from spiritually impacting many lives for eternity.

Until you know who you are, it will be very difficult to flow with God’s desires for your life. But once you find out the truth about who you were created by God to be, then you can unleash and develop your gifting and abilities for the glory of God, other’s good, and your own personal growth. You are His workmanship, finely crafted and developed for good works–not by good works–but for good works, or for a special service your life will offer others.

May God open up this new world to you, starting today. Get excited and enter a new world of adventure…

Wanna be a hero?

Filed under: Tool Kit — Pastor David May 27, 2011 @ 10:57 am

Today I want point you to 2 tools that will help you during challenging times.

This past Sunday we talked about what it means to be a hero and specifically what makes a hero a hero. I honor, as I think we should, the people that protect us and guard our freedom, truly those that have given their lives in this duty ARE HEROES.

But what about me and you? Can we be heroes? I believe we can (in a little different way) to those around us, even on a daily basis.

These tools will help you become a hero to those that you love most…your family and friends. Take a look and see how…

1. This first tool is an article from our friends at Turning Point Counseling dealing with marriage relationships. Four styles of Conflict in Your Marriage.pdf

2. Secondly, I’ve included some charts and graphs that will give you a better sense (to become more self-aware) of how to know you are headed in the right direction while in a conversation or circumstance that has the potential to go bad. Models of Relationships.pdf

Let me know your thoughts on these…hope they help.

Series: Up Close and Personal

Filed under: Tool Kit — Pastor David Aug 9, 2010 @ 12:59 pm

The last 3 weeks have been powerful for me personally. Preaching through a small section of the 22nd chapter of the book of Luke on the topic of developing an intimate relationship with Christ has allowed me to see and apply truths from God’s Word in a transformational way.

We first looked at guilt and how an unhealthy perspective of it can end in feelings of being distant from God–which in turn can cause a spiral of negative choices, false conclusions, etc.
Next, we considered fear and the pursuit of a “safe place.” In the middle of a world full of various dangers, mostly out of our control, how do we find such a place? If finding a “safe place” may not even be about about the place, the people, or the circumstances that surround us right now, then how do we find it?By building on the truths about how to view guilt and fear in a healthy way, we are then prepared to talk about the emotion shame. We described the differences between guilt and shame based on how it feels and what it looks like in our lives. Then building on the truth in God’s Word, we asked the root question, “Does God really love me?”  We discovered 3 important keys to overcoming shame’s oppressive power.

I want to invite you to get the CD’s from this series as a resource for yourself or maybe a friend or family member. You can listen to the messages in their entirety on our website by visiting our resource library.

I encourage you to continue your discovery by taking the 3 self-assessments found in Dr. Les Parrott’s book,  Shoulda Coulda Woulda, published by Zondervan.
